Hair Braids

We’ve been practicing braiding hair in the salon today, it’s a tricky skill to master, whilst taking inspiration from the paintings of artist So Yoon Lym.

The Dreamtime is a collection of large scale acrylic paintings of hair braids in exquisite detail, that emphasise the labyrinthine quality of the patterns created by the cornrows.

Lym describes these patterns as ‘topographical maps’ with the title of the collection referencing Aboriginal stories and visions of creation.
